How could anyone prefer Fred Astaire to Gene Kelly? Honestly?
I love this scene with Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse, but Cyd totally steals the scene. I don't know of anyone who managed to steal a scene when Gene Kelly was dancing.
To be fair, we'll even compare the two dancing with the same woman.
Can I just add I love Gene Kelly's glasses? I just love a guy in glasses.

To be fair, I think Cyd steals the scene in both cases, as I'm sure was the intent. And this is in no way disrespectful to Fred or Gene, indeed it should stand as a testament to their wonderful ability to choroeograph dance scenes.
Personally, I think I prefer the 1920s, 1930s style which Astaire really embodies, it's a little flamboyant but that's what I love about it. I always had a soft spot for 1930s and 1940s Hollywood too. I'd suggest this scene if you haven't seen it yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duLFwcsc6Nc
Kelly's is a more modern style, in my opinion, which is great too, though musicals sadly went out of fashion not long after Singin' in the Rain...
Heck, they're both great. But Astaire still by a whisker for me :)
